Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Ransi Village

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh or Haridwar to Ransi, a peaceful mountain village and the base for the trek. The route passes through Devprayag and Rudraprayag, offering stunning river confluences and Himalayan views. Upon reaching Ransi, trekkers settle into a local guesthouse or homestay for the night, with a short orientation and trek briefing in the evening.

Day 2

Trek from Ransi to Gondar

After an early breakfast, the trek kicks off with a moderate hike through pine and oak forests, crossing small hamlets and terraced fields. The day’s journey takes around 5–6 hours, ending at Gondar where trekkers camp amid forested surroundings. This stretch helps in acclimatization and introduces trekkers to the raw beauty of the region.

Day 3

Gondar to Madmaheshwar Temple

Today’s trail ascends gradually towards the sacred shrine of Madmaheshwar, one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan peaks, the temple holds immense spiritual value and rewards trekkers with serene landscapes. The evening is spent exploring the temple complex and enjoying the peaceful ambiance before retiring for the night in nearby accommodation or tents.

Day 4

Madmaheshwar to Kachni Khal

After a soulful morning at the temple, the trek resumes with a steep climb to Kachni Khal, a high-altitude ridge that offers panoramic views of the Chaukhamba massif and surrounding valleys. The campsite here is perched above the treeline, and the experience of camping under a starlit sky at such an elevation is both surreal and unforgettable.

Day 5

Kachni Khal to Nandi Kund via Pandavsera

This is one of the most thrilling and rewarding days of the trek. The trail leads across rugged alpine terrain, passing through the legendary Pandavsera meadows—believed to be associated with the Pandavas. As trekkers reach Nandi Kund, they are greeted by the sight of the crystal-clear lake nestled among towering peaks. The night is spent camping beside this sacred lake, soaking in its tranquility and the sheer isolation of the location.

Day 6

Exploration Day at Nandi Kund

This day is reserved for rest and exploration around Nandi Kund. Trekkers can enjoy quiet walks along the lake, meditate, or take short hikes to nearby ridgelines for broader views of the Himalayas. It’s a chance to connect deeply with the serene energy of this glacial basin and to reflect in complete silence away from civilization. A second night is spent here under the stars.

Day 7

Return Trek to Pandavsera

After a memorable stay at the lake, the group retraces its steps back to Pandavsera. The descent allows for a more relaxed pace, with plenty of time to take in the meadows and surrounding mountain views. Camp is set near the meadows once again, offering a quieter return to the lower elevations.

Day 8

Trek back to Madmaheshwar or Lower Camp

The journey continues back down towards Madmaheshwar. Depending on the group’s pace and weather conditions, the team either camps near the temple or moves further down to an intermediate camp closer to Gondar. This day also offers one last chance to visit the Madmaheshwar temple and soak in its divine atmosphere.

Day 9

Trek back to Ransi Village

The final trekking day concludes with a return to Ransi. The trail becomes familiar but no less beautiful, as trekkers walk through the same forests and villages with a new sense of accomplishment. Upon reaching Ransi, everyone rests in guesthouses or homestays for a comfortable final night in the mountains.

Day 10

Departure from Ransi to Rishikesh/Haridwar

After breakfast, the group departs by road for Rishikesh or Haridwar, marking the end of this incredible 10-day Himalayan experience. The drive down is a time to reflect on the adventure, the landscapes, and the spiritual stillness of Nandi Kund that lingers long after the journey ends.

Things to Know

Weather Conditions

  • Expect pleasant days with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 18°C during the trekking months (May to early July and late September to mid-October). Nights are cold, especially near Nandi Kund and Kachni Khal, with temperatures dropping to 0°C to 5°C.
  • Avoid the monsoon season (mid-July to August) as the region experiences heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and landslide risks.
  • Sudden weather changes are common in the high Himalayas — trekkers must carry rain gear, layered clothing, and warm essentials.
  • Snowfall begins by late October, making the trail inaccessible during winter months (November to April).

Road Conditions

  • The road journey to Ransi village, the starting point of the trek, involves mountain roads that are narrow, winding, and prone to damage during the monsoon.
  • From Haridwar/Rishikesh to Ukhimath, roads are mostly motorable but can have occasional landslides or traffic blocks during rainy months (July–August).
  • The final stretch from Ukhimath to Ransi is a steep uphill drive, accessible by small vehicles but not recommended at night due to sharp bends and limited lighting.
  • Post-monsoon and pre-snowfall (September to October) are the best times for a smoother journey. It’s advisable to use experienced mountain drivers and well-maintained vehicles.
