Char Dham Yatra from Coimbatore

Coimbatore is one of the most distant starting points, at about 2,700 km from Haridwar. Most yatris fly with one stop, usually via Delhi or Bengaluru, and land at Dehradun the same day.

Coimbatore also serves pilgrims from the Palakkad gap and central Kerala. That has a special meaning for Badrinath, whose chief priest, the Rawal, is traditionally a Namboodiri Brahmin from Kerala. The tradition goes back to Adi Shankaracharya, who was himself from Kalady in Kerala.

Best time to travel from Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu summer holidays (April–May) match the yatra opening, which is ideal but busy. For a quieter trip, choose late September to October. Avoid July–August, when the monsoon makes the Uttarakhand roads unreliable.

What the trip costs

Your total has two parts: the Coimbatore → Dehradun journey (see the fares above), and the Uttarakhand package covering vehicle, stays and meals for the circuit. The package cost depends on group size, hotel category and season, not on your home city.

Travel tips for Coimbatore yatris

  • Kerala yatris: compare flights from Kochi and from Coimbatore. Either works with the same Uttarakhand plan.
  • Plan a rest night after the long flight connection, especially with elders.
  • Pack serious cold-weather gear. Coimbatore's climate gives no preparation for Kedarnath at 3,583 m.
  • South Indian meals are rare in the hills. Carry ready-to-eat items you trust.
