Harsil bazaar
Shops, basic medical help and the start of the Gangotri road. Families arriving late usually stay here. Expect some traffic in season.
Harsil · Bagori · Dharali · Jhala
Most Harsil hotels are small family-run homestays, not chain resorts. What travellers need here is an attached bathroom, hot water, a heater, parking and a hot vegetarian dinner. We live in Bagori village and run Daisy HomeStay ourselves, and we list another property only after checking it on the ground. Compare the rooms below, then send your dates on WhatsApp and we usually confirm availability the same day.

| Season | Room demand | Booking tip |
|---|---|---|
| April – June | Very high | Gangotri yatra plus school holidays. Book 3–4 weeks ahead, and earlier for weekends and family rooms. |
| July – August | Low | Rooms are easy to get. Monsoon landslides can delay you, so ask for flexible dates. |
| September – November | Medium to high | Apple season and Diwali. October weekends fill first; book 1–2 weeks ahead. |
| December – February | High on snow weekends, quiet on weekdays | Christmas–New Year and fresh-snow weekends sell out. Confirm the room heater and check our live road update. |
| March | Low | Late snow is possible and rooms are easy to find. Good for a quiet, cheaper trip. |

Shops, basic medical help and the start of the Gangotri road. Families arriving late usually stay here. Expect some traffic in season.
A Jadh Bhotia village of old wooden houses, about 1 km from the bazaar, with river and forest views and quiet nights. Our own Daisy HomeStay is here.
Closer to the river, with quieter nights. About 10 minutes further towards Gangotri, with plenty of homestays.
Apple orchards on the Uttarkashi side, a few minutes before Harsil. The best views, but a longer walk to the shops. Suits couples and small groups.
Village homestays usually cost Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,500 per night for a double room. Mid-range hotels and river-view stays go up to Rs 4,000 to Rs 7,500. Book ahead for peak May–June and October weekends. Meals may be charged separately.
For families who want an attached washroom, parking and hot water, a verified homestay and a small hotel both work well. Couples and photographers tend to prefer river-facing rooms. Large groups are better off in two or three nearby cottages, as Harshil has very few large resorts.
Main Harshil bazaar is closest to the Gangotri road. Dharali is a little quieter, and Jhala has river and orchard views. Mukhba is a separate village known for the winter temple. We suggest a stay based on your pickup time and Gangotri slot.
Yes. In season, most stays provide a room heater at extra charge. Food is simple Garhwali vegetarian: dal, rice, roti and seasonal vegetables. Mention any Jain or satvik meal request when you book. Alcohol and loud music are usually not allowed in the villages.
